For Adults [18+ years old and above] who have been baptized into the Catholic Church but have not yet been confirmed, please contact: Judy Zedan at [email protected] or 313.884.7407.
“Preparation for Confirmation should aim at leading the Christian toward a more intimate union with Christ and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit - his action, his gifts, and his bidding - in order to be more capable of assuming the apostolic responsibilities of Christian life. To this end catechesis for Confirmation should strive to awaken a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ, the universal Church as well as the parish community. The latter bears special responsibility for the preparation of the confirmands.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1309)
Preparation for Confirmation for the youth of Our Lady Star of the Sea is a two-year process (typically starting in 7th grade) utilizing Ascension Press’ CHOSEN program. Click here to view Chosen materials. With governmental guidelines and restrictions related to the COVID pandemic ever changing, we will be offering Home School Faith Formation for 2020-2021 as we start the year with a blended learning style, providing both print and digital resources for parents to work with their student. We will be using Google classroom features for ease of completing assignments and forms. See below. In addition, there will be focused Masses and family events at the parish to help families to ENCOUNTER Jesus, GROW in their faith, and be a WITNESS to the love of God for everyone.
All registered families will receive a print copy of the student book as well as access to online resources and a curriculum of material pertinent to their child's grade to be covered each week. Reminders and required assignments will be sent electronically each week.
At the conclusion of the second year, the young people receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, are sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit, and are sent forth to bring the Good News to world. That is why being a confirmed Catholic is only the BEGINNING of the journey, not the end.
